As Supply Chains Recover From Pandemic – Freight Expected to Increase.

Many of the supply chains are beginning to recover from the pandemic. As the flow of  goods increases, the need for long haul drivers will increase as well.
It is expected that freight in the US will grow at a robust annual rate of 6% in 2021.  Some of that demand is driven by the increase in e-commerce as many households decided to have items shipped to them during the pandemic rather than venture out to stores.  A bigger factor is the overall recovery of the economy as a society wakes up from lock downs and other restrictions.

The trucking industry will need to hire more drivers to meet demand. Currently, the transport industry has a shortage of drivers which is driving up wages. This is good news for students of First Class Training Centre as graduates are being snapped up quickly by companies hungry to meet increasing freight demands.

Career In Long Haul Trucking Puts You at the Front of the Vaccination Line

In addition to being a great career that delivers a living wage right out the gate, becoming a professional cross border driver does have many more perks including priority vaccination.  The governor of North Dakota and premier of Manitoba have announced that North Dakota will be offering Manitoba truckers a vaccine shot at a North Dakota rest stop near the international border. This means that the almost 4000 cross border drivers can become vaccinated, ahead of schedule.

Both the US and Canada recognize the importance of a secure and efficient supply chain as essential goods need to move to markets both south and north. This vaccine program will ensure that drivers will be protected so that they can continue to do the important work that they do.

Automation Not a Factor For Many Years in the Trucking Industry.

Many young people are concerned that automation will limit the amount of truck driving opportunities soon.  This is just not the case for the foreseeable future for an industry that is facing a severe driver shortage that could exacerbate disruptions to supply chains caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Approximately 300,000 truck drivers in Canada move an estimated $850-billion worth of goods annually, including $550 billion in imports and $300 billion in exports. While automation is expected to replace some drivers in the long-term, it’s not going to solve the labour shortage anytime soon.

Some estimate it will be at least 10 to 15 years before automation will have any impact at all on employment. Many are suggesting that like an airplane pilot, drivers will still be a necessary part of the driving equation to complete the supply chain.

With the average wage of a professional big rig driver closing in on $70,000CDN, trucking is a great opportunity to take your career to the next level.  First Class is the best educator for Class 1 and Class 3 licensing in Manitoba.  With locations in Thompson, Winnipeg and Brandon, there is a school close to you.
